We have a 7mth springer shes been with us 10 days now, she was kennel kept at the rescue so not house trained. We have been going really well with only a few accidents indoors and only once she was wet in the crate at night but the last 2 nights she has pood in the crate then layed in it.

She gives us no sounds that she want to go out, we are feeling pretty low at the moment and want to stop this hopefully before it gets to a habit...

She is fed at 5pm and normally does a poo at 6pm she go`s out at 11pm for a wee, I`m thinking that I will need to stay up till she does a poo!!!!!!

Any advise greatly welcomed

Is it a 'loose' poo or a normal one? If it is loose then you need to find out why - does she need worming, or could you change her diet. If it is a normal one, then try changing her routine. Perhaps if she is fed twice daily then make the morning one the bigger meal. Can you take her out for a walk in the evening or play some energetic games in the garden which may encourage her to empty herself before bedtime?

I use a crate with my puppy - found it very good.

How does she feel about being put in the crate? Does she go in voluntarily? Ours loves the crate - uses it as his bed all day when the door open - then at night he takes himself in there and we just close the door then.

If she not used to it/ doesn't like it - you might need to start feeding her in there etc etc - make the crate a nice place to be - and not shut the door until she happy in there?

Also - it might be worth hanging on for her to go at 11pm

we used to get ours to play a bit - as the exercise seemed to help move things along!

For the first few nights I got up at 3am to let the puppy out as well - just so he wouldn't have to hold on... He's not had an accident yet and we have had him since feb.

Yep....feed her in the crate & make it a nice place to be.
Can you take her for a good walk before bedtime as the excercise should get her to toilet outside.
Make a huge fuss of her EVERYTIME she goes in the correct place. You feel a fool, but it works lol.

Hi I got a SS which had been kennel reared . I didn't get him until 13 weeks apparently the older they are the longer it takes to house train. It took him about 8 months to be completely house trained.

Don't give up

Is there room in the crate to make 2 separate spaces ie bed one end and paper the other? A good tip to stop them weeing is to just leave a couple of ice cubes at night.

Try feeding your dog around 7 or 8 pm. It takes around twelve hours for the food to digest, so hopefully will stay clean til morning.
He probably needs a bit of time to adjust properly to the new environment too. Good luck

Yes she was from a rescue and was in a kennel wih other dogs, but they did change a lot. she has settled very well with no barking or any noise when left at night or during the day, and is happy to go in the crate during the day for a sleep or get her toys.

Last night took her out at 10pm for a longish walk till she poo`d then went to bed at 12.30am got up at 3.30 put her out but did nothing when hubby came down at 6am she was clean and dry.

I did worm her yesterday and she has worms!!!!!! so maybe that has upset her a bit, but glad all was well last night won`t get to excited yet and will keep this routine up and hopefully will be clean.

Thanks for the advise, but keep it coming if anyone has and ideas.

Great news to hear that she was clean last night! Yuck about the worms - but better out than in! Will keep my fingers crossed for you that she stays clean now.
