My youngster is SUCH a messy eater ... he gets it everywhere, he paws at the bucket (tried trugs/rubbers/over door ones) and tips it over, he smooshes it into the mud, he throws it everywhere and is generally a real mucky pup !!!

By comparison, my other lad is so neat, eats carefully, not spilling a drop, and licks his bowl clean, only ever having spillage if his teeth are a bit sharp and need doing.

So, my youngsters teeth are fine, and he`s always eager for his food. So, does anyone have any hints and tips ? ? ? ? ...... as it`s not great forking out hard earned cash for feed and supplements, when in his case the majority of it ends up trampled into the mud.

Ta muchly :D

We fed one of ours that was like this in a really tall, high sided bucket fixed into a tyre so he couldn't flick feed out/ knock it over. :)

I like the tyre idea.

I did the opposite with a messy mare. Fed in a very wide shallow bucket. The rubber heavy kind. Didnt find she pawed at it to get to it after that. I think she was compacting in in tall slim bucket and booted to get at it more easily.

One of mine was like this - used to put her foot in it, kick it, pick it up and throw the bucket at u etc

I now have a tall rubber thing, like a trug but really high sided which i bungie tie to the fence! When shes finished she amuses her self pulling it back and letting it twang :D

My other mare eat, but dribbles it all down the gate or nearest person :p

I use a tyre - a big deep one. However, I do have make absolutely sure that I don't leave it in when he has finished because he likes to do party tricks with it - namely hula hooping around one leg or the other, but once I found it round his neck. I had left him all of 5 minutes whilst helping with an emergency.
