Hi All,

My first post so be gentle!

Pj (the pony) is sooo messy in his stable over night, anyone favour a particular type of bedding for messy so and so's?

I've known (but not owned) two very messy horses. The first was kept on straw because it was too expensive for the owner to use other kinds of bedding. The second was on rubber mats with a small amount of shavings.

Hello.

Tongue in cheek here... to me it's called a field;)

No, seriously, you can either go down the rubber and bit on top and sweep it all out everyday route, or I use shavings and semi deep litter. No experience with anything other than straw and shavings so I'm not really a lot of help sorry.

my boy was extremely dirty in the stable last year, as it was his first time in one, but gradually he worked out where to poo so he didn't have to lie in it. I use straw, and take the poo and worst wet out every day, full wet out once a week, and just to see the look of happiness when he stretches himself out is worth it.

shavings are definitely easier to muck out tho. So are wood pellets I think. sm x

Hi,

Have tried the small bed on top of his rubber mats (both shavings and straw) and he just ends up very wet (rugs and all!!)

So have now resorted to a full straw bed on top of his rubber mats (all wet taken out every day)

Silly skinny thoroughbred so field isnt an option (however tempting it may seem! the silly thing just tries to bring himself in!)

I feel your pain as I too have a very dirty tb! I have tried pretty much every approach from rubber mats with very little bedding and taking it all out, and then in varying depths up to a deep bed and he is always the same! Disgusting! I'm sorry not to be able to offer any suggestions for you but at least we can know we're not alone lol!
