Myself, another lady from the yard and her 10 year old daughter had literally just left our yard which is on a main B road and were turning off into the village when a car stopped and a man got out, now normally this never ends in a good way but we'd literally been on the road 300 metres and couldn't possibly of done anything wrong already! Anyway he got out and said that as two of us were on bay horses and wearing quite dark clothing, 10 year old was wearing bright pink jods though! Admittedly I hardly ever think about wearing hi-viz clothing, esp on such a nice day like today! But he kindly gave us one hi-viz jacket, which the young girl thought was very cool and wanted to wear. We think he must be some building contractor or something as he had a nice saloon car and dressed quite smartly but not many people have hi-viz jackets readily available to pass out! He wasn't rude, just pointing out something that both us older two knew we should of been doing.

So thanks to that one nice driver I met today

I took Honey out inhand and she reared up and nearly landed on the bonnet of his car then came down spun round and was inches from kicking the car ..
He apologied for not turing the engine off

A digger man driving up the road stopped as soon as he saw us and turned the engine off, it took us about 5 minutes to get to him and pass! A big quarry lorry passed us twice and slowed right down both times. And lots of people waited to let us pass/ slowed down/ smiled and waved.

It really made me happy for the rest of the day

There are some great drivers out there, after a very near miss with a large lorry and a bad driver 4 years ago I could hug the good ones I meet. I was wearing hi-viz, have done for the past 10 years. I owe it to my horse to wear it, it gives drivers so much more time to react, they see you way off .

Oh that's lovely! It's so good to hear nice stories like that.

Wish I was as lucky, yesterday we had a car driver overtake and beep his horn as he did so. Although we did have the satisfaction of the horses doing nothing!

There are some good ones out there. A few weeks ago I had a very near miss on a friend's horse, when two boy racers came up behind us so quickly that they couldn't stop and had to swerve round us on a blind bend - the first car made it but by the time the second one did it there was a white van coming the other way. It was only becasue this van was going slowly enough, there was a convenient driveway for him to dive into and I had stopped my friend's horse which meant the car could dive back onto our side of the road 6" in front of the horse's nose that a major accident was avoided . The boy racers were long gone, but the white van man, pretty shaken up himself, got out of his van to check we were ok. Bless, maybe they're not all terrible drivers.
