met the hunt today when driving home and have to say was very disapointed in their behaviour.
There were cars parked both sides of road making it very difficult to get through, horse boxes parked anyhow and riders cantering up the road just expecting people to giveway to them.
No one thanked me for slowing down and stopping for them. Very rude.

Its not identical as its not by me! I will post what I like thanks.

Have just read the other post and its nothing like mine, I was driving a car and the stupid behaviour of the hunt followers could have caused a accident.
Also feel sorry for the horses as cantering up a road cant be good for their legs.
Also manners cost nothing.

Don't see what the problem is, ok, Horse boxes/cars parked both sides of the road but hardly an inconvenience, you got through? And of course there will be horses on the road for a short time until they can get off road, it is expected that drivers will be courteous and let them go by.

Most hunts do say thank you but can't be expected to say thank you to every passing motorist

Its a shame no one said thank you, but I don't really see the problem tbh. Cars are often parked both side in narrow roads not due to hunting...

Don't feel sorry for the horses- they love their jobs. Much better than them being wrapped in bubble wrap not allowed to do anything.

The cars and horse boxes were blocking peoples vision of the road and on coming traffic, thats dangerous, horses cantering along side my and others cars, just one shy etc and would have ON my car they were that close.
No wonder people get fed up with them.

I regularly have my vision blocked by large lorries parked in ridiculous places, but that is life.

Maybe it would have been best if you had stopped at let the horses past so you didn't run the risk of your car being damaged?

I did stop, they were cantering past me. Not that I was thanked for it!

Well we should all stop riding our horses in that case. Stick them in a field, just in case they break.
Yes, it "may" damage their legs, but I'd much rather have a great day out, with my horse enjoying himself than keep him in the field. He is much more likely to break a leg jumping a hedge...should I stop jumping those then?

Unfortunate they did not say thank you. I always nod my head as a thank you purely because I can't take my hands off my reins. I doubt many people notice this.

OP,

I wouldn't recommend 'naming and shaming' the pack tbh. If you're concerned about what happened, would it not be more benificial to contact the hunt secretary to try and prevent it from happening again?

ETA: I don't see the point in moaning about it on the internet really, it doesn't acheive anything

Agree horse boxes/ cars parked on both sides can be a bit of an inconvenience but could be happens because of lots of things, cantering on the roads...I wouldn't but their horses their choice... but I don't agree that they can't be expected to say thankyou! Basic manners cost nothing and the fact they are with a hunt doesn't give them a right to be rude. A lot of car drivers may base their opinions of all horse riders on the behaviour of meetings like this and if they aren't given the common courtesy of an acknowledgement for taking the time to slow down or wait what's to say the next time they meet a rider...maybe even you....they think 's** it' and don't bother slowing down? We can't complain about the disrespect shown by drivers if we don't have the decency to show some back

Are you serious?

Horses go lame hunting due to a lack of fitness and therefore over doing it. Obviously there are exceptions. If you have done the road work and properly built up their fitness it will do no harm. You wouldn't do it daily, but I have known competitions to be run on ground that is like concrete in the summer. I think that probably does more damage!

Exactly! Riders complain when drivers dont slow down for horses but behaviour like this is ok?

I'm not saying it is ok- but saying you feel sorry for the horses is ridiculous. Their horses, the riders choice.

If you really have a problem, don't name and shame the hunt, contact the hunt directly to make a complaint. You will get a more direct response from there.

Well lets hope someone from the Warickshire or any other hun has read this post, and see that they aren't making many friends. Seeing that David Cameron has said, that there will be a free vote in this Paraliment, sometimes I dispare of the hunting people, as they don't help themselves in giving a positive outlook on what they do, but more and more foxes are being shot, and must admit I'd like to poisin a few around here.

Hunts get horses blood up, the last time i went i ended up unintentionally cantering on a road and struggling to try and get back to a sensible speed, if this was the case you wouldnt want the riders to take a hand of the reins to thank you...

Agree- would you rather someone took their hands off the reins and ended up on your car bonnet or no thank you? I know which I would!

I'm baffled that anyone cannot understand that cantering on roads might impact on a horse's longterm soundness. Totally agree that anyone who fails to treat hard ground with respect will be subjecting their horses to the same forces.

The actuaries (sp.) , employed by underwriters, clearly do expect a higher claims rate from hunters as they charge a higher premium for this activity.

But going back to the OP's point, hunts' behaviour does impact on all hackers. Last season a few members of the local hunt were using a path on land that has full permission from the landowner. Unfortunately, path concerned is a key dog walk/ village stroll route, resulting in local (innocent) hackers getting ear ache because the path was trashed. Fortunately we had the chance to refer other locals to the landowner.

I feel sorry that they will have their legs ruined and why is that ridiculous exactly?

So do you feel sorry for every eventer, show jumper, race horse, trek horse and every other discipline- because they "may" damage their legs?

Far more horses are ruined by being rapped, mistreated and abused- feel sorry for those ones. Not the ones that are loving every minute of their jobs!

Do you feel sorry for me because I "may" be hit by a car tomorrow, or I "may" fall down the stairs.

I should think not!
