Apparently my old pony has this (vet diasgnosed it from funny lumps of fat around her tail). He suggests blood tests and possible medication. Any thoughts on this? What is it? Can she bumble along happily enough without medication?
She is very prone to lami, would medication help reduce that?
Thanks for any help!

One of my work's driving ponies has been diagnosed with this. Its kind of like cushings disease but more of a pain because its not fully understood and there is no proven treatment. That said, according to my vet different medications do seem to help different cases. My pony had laminitis at Christmas, still hasn't got better and he developed an abscess in the worst affected foot. He is on pergolide and modranel (sp), he was also tried on navilox but it did nothing. If you do get any informtion would you mind PMing me with it, I'm still willing to try any suggestions!!

I will get her tested and see what the vet says about medication. I am a bit tight, though, so if its going to be very expensive we shall have to carry on as we are for a bit. Her teeth are also falling out as a seperate issue, we will rename her Gummy! Shes only 18.
She walks slighlty as though she has tied up for a few minutes after being on the trailer, just sort of stiff behind, is that linked do you think? I wonder if Vit E and selenium would help? This supplement busienss is a bit never ending, shes already on cider vinegar, garlic, linseed and vits/mins.

Hi there

Im a member of the metabolic horse yahoo group. The woman who runs it is called Jackie and she is incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, as are the rest of the group. At the moment, the treatment is management/diet although the Laminitis Clinic are trialling a medication for the condition.

Thank you. The vet did say I had to get her management sorted out, but didn't give me any more info, I suppose I was only paying for teeth! Will mosey on off to that site, thank you.
