My horse has a metal allergy. I have to keep sheepskin sleeves on all her top buckles on rugs or she comes up in grape like lumps. I also had to give up on heart bar shoes for a lameness as she gave herself such a sore on her side behind her elbow/girth line when she was lying down and the shoe was touching.
The bit is also a problem. I had thought she was semi okay when I changed to a very tiny ringed bradoon but it's not right. I always wondered why she was so rude rubbing the side of her face on me when I got off after a ride yet she is so polite the rest of the time so tried covering the rings of a Nathe with cut up bits of sheepskin velcro noseband and she stopped rubbing. The Nathe isn't ideal as she does go much better in a loose ring jointed bit.
I'd consider going bitless but would really like to do some dressage on her so that also rules out covering a metal bit and the rings with anything.
Any ideas?

I know that it specifically states that you can't wear bit rings but it also states that your horse can't wear a nose gauze but you can get written dispensation to wear one under certain circumstances.

I would consider contacting British Dressage & explaining your problem to someone in authority. Offer them details of your vet who will be able to verify the allergy your horse has & possibly there may be something they can do to help you. They may not be able to but if you don't speak to them you'll never know?

Good Luck, it would be a shame for you not to be able to compete.
