Anyone out there had experience of using metformin for insulin resistance when laminitis is present? Good/bad? Thankyou

I could not get my French vets to blood test, so treated blind on the advice of a vet on this forum who gave me dosage.
My mare is less hungry and we are keeping her trim without too much trouble. She is still on box rest. She gets four nets a day of hay and three sml. feeds of s/b and safe and sound. I don't soak her hay.

My pony has been on it for about 18 months. It seems to help controlling her insulin and I believe it is very safe for use in horses.

There is a mini shetland at my livery yard on metformin and as far as i am aware is doing well on it.

My friend's horse was on metformin in the same circumstances and has now been able to come off it and is very fit and well.
