What side effects are recognised in horses when treated with metformin long term
I am a type 2 diabetic and they have caused pernicious aneamia and kidney disease in me so I am concerned that the horse may get the same side effects. I have been taken off them now but I am not sure I would give them long term to my ponies should they need them.
I had a wonderful Welsh D that was diagnosed with EMS with her new owner but the she got very ill while on metformin and no one could decide whether it was the metformin or a virus and post viral syndrome but she nearly died. She is fine now doesnt even have the EMS anymore
I also wonder if it has become a fashionable thing to diagnose so the vets use it as an answer to everything
