Apologies - I'm sure this has been covered before.

My boy is a sod for cocking his jaw and heading off into the horizon at speed. A grackle has sorted that, but I've had a hell of a job finding one that fits him properly. Now my understanding is that a Mexican should have the ring sitting about an inch or so above the cheek - but not pulled round so the ring presses on the prominent part of the cheek bone. Is this your understanding?

If I get that right (if that is right of course) - I then find its almost impossible to do the strap up below the bit without the buckle resting on his lips. I've tried Sabre in Cob and Full, and now a Kieffer. Think this one will work with a few more holes but just wanted everyones thoughts?

If anyone has a pic of a correctly fitted one they could post - that would be great. If I google it, I see all sorts!

Thank you.

While there is a correct way if fitting them it really does depend on the make of bridle and how they have the straps if that makes sense.
This is a cheapy noseband i got to go with an existing bridle, fitted will but the buckle sat right by the bit.

Wow that makes him look like he has a massive head! :D
This is my current bridle, slighty different as it doesnt have the rings but still fits in the same way, this bridle has better straps so the buckle sits higher. I think it probaly do with sitting a bit higher compared to a ringged grackle but it seems to work for us

Have a look at your grackle, you want one with a longer buckle end than the end that treads through, this should mean the buckle will sit higher up the nose.

Not sure if that is any help actually! :o Im not keen when the ring is nearly sitting in their eyes so tend to have it lower than some, with that im mind someone might be able to give you a better more correct pic :)

My Mexican does the same & its p*$$*#g me off big style!! Pony has a big head so got a cob size, fits lovely except the buckle fits right on his lips, so got a full size to try instead - everything else is bigger except the flash part & the buckle STILL sits on his lips. I've no idea what to do either!! Going to take the Mexican to the shop with me & try & see if a grackle gas a longer flash bit, its driving me nuts!!!

If you find a solution, PLEASE let me know :)

Thank God so its not just me with a size issue! Good to know that I seem to be trying to fit it correctly!

Am thinking I'm going to have to get the buckle moved by a saddler in order to stop it sitting right on his lips - seems that if I get the ring in the right place it messes it up elsewhere.

Thanks guys - and that bridle without the ring looks fab - a much nicer fit too. What make is it?
