Hi,
I've got a 23 year old semi retired pony. He's been my best friend through uni etc and I can't imagine parting with him. However, in the last 6-9 months my mental and physical health have rapidly declined (sort of why he's become semi retired). Whilst I'm sure he's not too fussed about becoming more of a paddock pet, I do worry that the lack of routine isn't great and moverover I worry about what would happen to him if I was to end up in hospital for an extended period of time (something seeming more likely day by day).
I can't afford to put him on livery, I've got family who'll do basic checks but they don't want the burden full time. I don't have the time / energy to be able to sell him nor do I want to. I worry a lot about loaning him out as there is no one I know personally who'd have him but then I don't know what to do...
I don't know if anyone has experience with similar situations or any advice?
