Mice problem

We've always had the odd mouse in our feed room but over the winter they've increased dramatically! I see them all the time, they seem to pop out to say hello (rude little sods!). Obviously they are making a right mess using the room as their toilet..... as well as running about all over the feed bins. Its gross.

How can I get rid of them? I dont fancy the mouse trap or poison ideas (yuk), are there any humane catcher devices? Basically I just want to round up all the family and let them out somewhere far far away!!

You can get plug in things that emit a highpitched noise, not sure how well they work, and might upset dogs, cats etc. You could get a humane trap, but there's probably tons of them to catch! Plus there's no much food in stables they might not want the bait. Shut a cat in? We had to resort to poison, but we have a serious mouse and rat infestation!

Funny you should mention those high-pitched things, I have those! They do nothing, in fact since getting them the mice seem to be attracted to them......

I was hoping I could get some sort of multi-mouse catcher thing. Yeah, we could shut our cat in, but TBH they are crap as hunters!!!

I was thinking of trying those high pitched things (have a mouse in my attic), but don't think I'll bother then

. I think you could probably get a multitrapper, I've definitely seen them for squirrels anyway.

You can get humane catchers - I bought one years ago for my bird aviary and I've seen them on sale recently.

It's basically a metal box and when they step on a little pad, an 'arm' comes and bats them into the box. I think it can hold 20 at a time. Then you can release them (obviously some distance away), or "dispose" of them as you like......

We had this problem. poisons/traps etc. just weren't working.
We ended up rehoming 2 semi-ferel cats from a local rescue centre and they are doing a grand job

If you catch them and release them then they just become someone elses problem :-( Unless they go miles away into a wood I suppose.

We have a bit of a rat problem in the chicken house at the moment.... just having to set traps for them... doesnt seem very kind, but at least they are gone

What about getting a couple of farms cats in? I am afraid catching them and letting them go elsewhere is futile as there will be plenty more want a nice home in your tack room instead!

We have three cats that live in our feed room, BC, Saffy and Scruff. They were all wild but are very tame now.

You never see hide nor hair of a mouse, and the cats are shut in there, they are allowed in and out -but they just like to sleep in there on the hay!

We leave our bags of food on the floor etc with no worries.

I know how you feel...I just HATE that nasty mousy smell!! The little sh*ts also started nibbling my thermatex as I left it out to air.

We've tried the high pitched thing & the humane traps, but only ever caught one mouse in the humane trap. High pitched thing made no difference.

We've got a farm cat & 4 strategically placed snapper traps. I don't like using them, but at least they're quick & keep the population down a bit. The cat will also eat any dead mice found in the traps if he's offered them.
