Elf On A Shelf
...
The founder of the Scudamore dynasty has passed away. Although I never saw him race I did have the pleasure of meeting him a few times. He was always the first to crack a joke and then to crack the whip when he decided that he needed to be somewhere else 5minutes ago. In his days of racing body protectors didn't exist, you rode pretty much leg long, your whip was a flimsy twig and your hat most certainly didn't have straps on it. Michael was a legend in his own lifetime and he spawned a legendary family that will always go down as one of racings greatest.
At 81 years of age he had a full life. He got to watch his kids grow up, his grand kids grow up and his great grand kids be brought into this world. Not many get the chance to do that.
My thoughts go out to the rest of the family even more so as Michael's wife Mary passed away on Friday so it is a huge, huge loss.
R.I.P. Michael & Mary Scudamore - racing has lost a pair of it's true greats.
