Is it possible to use a Micklem bridle with a dutch gag/ hanging snaffle? I have only seen them being used with a loose ring snaffle. I'm thinking of buying a Micklem bridle for my mare, who i mainly event. She is currently ridden in a dutch gag and grackle for sj and xc and flash and hanging snaffle for dressage.

I haven't done it but I think you could. It will only be difficult if the distance from upper ring of the hanging snaffle to where it goes into the mouth is different from an average sized snaffle. This is because there is only limited flexibility in the cheekpieces as they are also joined to the noseband - so as you move the cheeks up and down, the noseband goes up and down too. You can adjust the bit height independently but only by a limited amount. From what I remember when I used a hanging cheek, the cheeks are roughly in the same place as a normal sized snaffle so you should be ok.

I have a loose ring bit with small rings and have found it's difficult to make the rest of the bridle fit well, because the cheeks have to be lower, the noseband seems too low.

It can be done pretty easily, we have a horse on the yard who has a hanging check for dressage and a pulham for other 2 phases. And there is no issues with it.
