Hi, was looking into a micklem bridle for my mare. First question are they worth it ? Also I used a micklem size guide to measure my mare across from the bottom of one cheekbone to the other cheekbone across the nose and she's at the small horse(cob) size/ standard horse size barrier. She's 14.2hh Irish hunter pony type. She wears a cob bridle that's the top on the cheek pieces but the loosest on the noseband, so it's always a nuisance to find a bridle to fit her... any advice on which size would be better ?
Thanks :)

If she's top hole on the cheeks of a cob bridle I suspect that the standard Micklem would be too long - the cheeks on the standard size were near the top on my horse that is normally middle holes of a regular full bridle.

As to whether they're worth it, they're marmite bridles and you and your pony will either love it or hate it. Personally I hated it for its poor quality and my horse was vile to ride in it and clearly not happy. But I've known others that have found the Micklem to be the answer to their problems and sing their praises regular so it's really a case of try one and see :)

There's a lot of places that will let you hire one for a small fee and keep it if it fits and send it back or change for another size if it doesn't (or that's how I understood what the websites were saying!). I looked into it as an option, but I eventually decided that a change of bit was a better option for the moment (though I would still consider trying one in the future)

I bought a large horse size for mine who normally fits an x-full. However I think I may have been better to get a standard micklem. With the large micklem I have it on its smallest size in order to have the noseband where it should be but then I could do with slightly longer bit straps as I think the bit may sit a little high at the moment.

I bought the large horse for my 16:2 TB mare. Most of it was fine but I've had to change the brow band as it was too short and pulled the whole thing forward. Definitely a try before you buy item. I've leant mine out a few times. Have you got a friend with one so you could have a go?

The small horse fits my cob - she's usually cob sized in bridles - she is exactly in the middle hole on the cheek pieces, but loosest hole on the throat and noseband (but I like the nose looser). I've put a bigger brow band on though. I got the competition version and I think the leather is fine. It cleans well and is looking good after about a year of daily use. I looked at hiring one, but they seem to hold resale value, so I just went for it.
