Hi all do any of you lovely people use the micklem bridles with either the baucher or neue schule universal? I currently use a loose ring which fits lovely with the leather bit attachments but if I want to use a hanging cheek bit then I would either need to put the nose band higher up or use the bit clips as I can't adjust the leathers short enough!!! (Sorry for garbling on but I'm sure people with micklems will understand what I mean!!!!)

Any advice/tips?

Thank you :-)

I have used it with a NS Universal. To be honest, trying to use a universal or a hanging cheek kind of defeats the point of both the bit (little bit of poll pressure) and the bridle (to remove poll pressure). The leverage just pushes the bit-loops forward and unless you're using the universal with a curb strap and it's the curb strap rather than the poll pressure that the horse is responding to, the bit kind of just spins round to horizontal. My horse did still respect the bit more than a snaffle, but it disrupted the correct lines of the bridle and I'll be looking for another solution when she comes back into jumping work as it therefore wasn't working correctly with the principles of the micklem. TBH, I'd imagine you'll end up with a similar situ with the hanging cheek, the hanging bit pushing the bit loop forward and not giving the bit the stability / tension with the cheek piece that you want. The bit also didn't have the same effect on the horse as a result as was milder.

Sorry, am aware this isn't that helpful, but thought it might save you some hassle with trying to adapt the bridle if you're not overly wedded to the bits mentioned. Micklems do have slightly odd dimensions I find! :) :)

That is helpful as that is precisely what I find is happening! Th bit tilts forwards!!!
Love my micklem tho but new horse could do with abit of poll pressure as he's a tense necked welsh x tb!!! Don't really want to have to back to a normal bridle!!!!
