Micklem Bridles??

Wanting to check if I have understood correctly!!

The competition bridle is BE legal (even for dressage, without the clips?) but the competition bridle is not able to be used as bitless

The multibridle is not competition legal but can be used bitless and for lungeing?

is that correct?

I did fancy trying one BUT for it to be worthwhile it would have to be competition legal and able to use bitless (my horse has sensitive mouth at times so a bitless option ocassionally would be good).
So is there such a bridle?
 
Correct apart from you can use the competition one bitless, I have one and I hack out in it bitless. The comp one is FEI approved :)
 
I have the multibridle, the competition bridle looks to be the same apart from the bit clips - I wonder if they mean that you do not get all the bitless pieces with the competition one? I got quite a few webbing pieces with mine, which I assume are the bitless conversion pieces.
 
I just looked on the website and where it says about it being for 'just with a bit' it looks like it just does not have features, like the ring on the nose to convert to a lunge cavesson etc. I guess the idea is that is looks a bit smarter and gives you that option if you would not use the features that convert it for another use.

Has anyone used one of these bitless? Any good? I used to use a Dr Cook but that squeezed my horses cheeks on to this teeth and when the dentist came it looked a bit sore - I think the pressure does not release as quickly as it might on those.
 
You can use the multibridle in comps you just need to remove the plastic clips. Main difference between the two I think is that the comp one doesn't have the lunge ring on the noseband
 
No idea I'm afraid and although I haven't really looked at the multi bridle the only difference that I saw was the ring on the noseband. I got all sorts of clips and straps with my bridle but as I knew the 'set up' that I needed, they've all been shoved in a drawer !
Btw I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong :)
 
Can't edit on phone - I don't use the clips from noseband to bit, I use the leather straps. She's off for the time being but I suppose using the clips would be more sensible if you wanted to ride bitless as just unclip in a couple of seconds ?
 
I brought the competition one and you can only use it on the most basic bitless version. I brought spare straps from eBay for the stronger bitless settings from the multi bridle but they don't fit through the smaller rings of the competition bridle so you can't use them. I'm wondering if there is a way of making it work but I haven't given it much thought yet!
 
The competition one can only be used on the mildest bitless setting, effectively riding in a head collar with reins.

The multi bridle comes with additional bits for 2 other bitless settings.
It also comes with the leather straps and clips for the addition of a bit.

As long as you don't mind competing in a bridle that has a ring on the nose, it can be configured the same as the competition bridle.

Oh yes, the competition bridle comes with reins, the multi bridle does not.

I'm still confused as to whether technically the multibridle is allowed for affiliated competition though? BE and BSJA specifically
 
Its the same bridle as long as you dont use the clips or the bitless "bits". When I bought mine I was told that it was legal used as a "normal" bridle.

Incidentally, you still use the leather straps to attach the bit even if you are using the clips. The clips are only lightweight plastic designed to hold the bit slightly higher in the mouth - you wouldnt want to risk them being the only attachment :eek:
 
I understand that you can use it bitless SJ and X country but must use it with a bit during dressage without clips.
I love my micklem but do tend to use it with a bit especially when competing!

Oh for competing I would definitely want to use with a bit!! Would only be for riding at home if his mouth was sore I would use bitless.

No, it's not.
The competition bridle does not come with all the bitless options. I know because I ordered the competition bridle but really needed the multi bridle and had to swap :o. I ride bitless due to teeth issues.

In short, the multi bridle can be used as the competition bridle but the competition bridle cannot be used with full bitless options.

For versatility, you'd be best going for the multi bridle .... as long as you don't mind the ring on the nose band, or as a previous poster, remove it :)

I didn't think that was right. I was told that you don't get the bitless straps with the competition bridle because it is not competition legal as a bitless bridle
