Can anyone help with the fit of my horses micklem bridle ?
She has pollen related mild head shaking so changed her from a hunt style bridle to a micklem.
She seams happy in this but I wanted to check it was in the correct position.

Can anyone advise ?
I was thinking the nose band needs to go up 1-2 holes but then the flash strap won’t do up as it’s already on last but 1 hole to still be loose.

There’s a lot going on around the corners of her mouth. I think the micklem is best with just a plain ring snaffle because of the part that goes under the chin it all looks a bit crowded with a gag. Can you at least do without the rubber bit guards?

It's hard to tell on that photo - the 'corner' of the cheek piece needs to curve just under the cheek bone. If she's happy, then I'd say listen to her.

By flash strap, do you mean the strap under the bit, or the one under her cheeks?

With mine, i've often had to mix and match the bit straps to get a good fit- going up a bridle size but down in the bit strap size or vice versa.

The bit strap I meant.

You can cut the bottom strap off of is not long enough and use a flash strap doubled back on itself instead. It can also be used without the bottom strap at all, I did this on my cob day to day, then used a flash strap in competitions where it was required to have a full noseband.

Ahh okay. Do you have a photo of what you mean ?
Hard to imagine it like that 🤔

The flash? No, but you loop it through both rings that used to hold the bottom strap and buckle it underneath the jaw. The buckle is away from the bit and sitting on top of the other half of the flash strap.
