Thanks for that, but they don't have a stockist near me. You wouldn't happen to know what they charge to deliver would you? I can't seem to find out on the website.

Yes, there is a place not far from me that stocks simple systems but and I am going slightly off topic here.........

Charnwood milling costs £20.60 for 20kgs of micronised linseed
Simple systems costs £37.50 of 20kgs of the same, almost twice the price.

I have been flirting with the idea of adding brewers yeast after reading about it on this forum.

Charnwood milling costs £45 fpr 25kgs
Simple systems costs £38. 50 for 5kgs!!!!

25kgs therefore would cost £192.50 compared to charnwoods £45!

Am I missing something here? Is it a different product?

Rank?

No I don't think so at all, it's very good quality.

It is also higher in oil and lower in ash than Charwoods stuff.

Price wise then the 5kg bags are not at all good value for money, but I buy the 20kgs now which isn't too bad.

Nope, all the same stuff. Really pays to shop around!

On an aside though, unless you have loads of horses then I wouldn't bother with the 25kg of brewers yeast (unless you can split it between other liveries?) as it will take you a life time to get through it and it will go off in time. When ours were on it I got ours from naturalhorsesupplies as it was cheap and lasted a long time with our two.

Nope same thing - welcome to the Tinhat world of being suspicious of feed companies and angry at the money you've given them over the years.

It's a slippery slope - you'll be a member of the Barefoot Taliban next

Hee hee! Not sure I will be a fully paid up member if the barefoot brigade, but you lot do talk an awful lot of sense!

I have been uneasy with feeding "processed" stuff to my horses for some time now and have been looking for a more natural diet. My horses are barefoot anyway as they are youngstock and broodmares.

Charnwood do have a stockist not a million miles from me, but I must admit I was hoping that one of the big feed companies would do the micronised linseed as my usual stockist delivers my feed order to my door for free. Just gotta talk him into stocking charnwood stuff now.........!

Just out of interest, how much brewers years would you feed an average 550ishkg horse and a 200ish kg foal?

Well a new 20kg bag of linseed from Charnwood has arrived on my doorstep this morning. It was ordered on Sunday and even with the postage from the other side of the country is good value at 27.35. It will last our 2 ponies (14.2 and 9.00 hh natives) well over 3 months feeding it everyday.
