Anyone up to anything exciting this weekend?
We're a bit backwards at the moment and having outings on weekdays for some reason.

First show in 3 months yesterday and pony was horribly fresh!
First test was a write off, second test better but occasionally turbos engaged for no particular reason 🤷 Can't knock him for being jolly!
Second to one of Carl Hester's riders and some valuable points for regionals so pretty pleased.

Most exciting thing this weekend is cheese night with friends on Saturday...

Have fun all!

Cheese night sounds fab 😆😆 I would be super excited about that!

I’m supposed to have an arena eventing clinic on sat and a dressage outing on Sunday. I say supposed to cos I keep booking things then jibbing out for one reason or another. Towing car wouldn’t start today so I thought that was that but OH has got it working tonight.
Could be a complete disaster but I’ve got the horse managing to eat a calming cookie after turning her nose up at them and started her on magnesium supplement so I have a bit of hope she won’t be a total wired nutcase!

Off to riding club novice dressage qualifier tomorrow. Intro to warm up with then prelim. We attended this last time and only managed the intro as by that point I hadn't died so quit whilst I was ahead...aim is to complete them both this time! It's the warm up that can cause the issue but he has many more outings under his belt now so really no excuses lol.

Then Frank the Shetland will be taking part in our riding clubs mini member training with my nieces on Sunday.

Good luck, I like the quitting whilst ahead. Am sure we have all done that.

I've not posted for a couple of weeks due to busy life stuff and not very exciting horse stuff! However this weekend we're due to go to our first Working Equitation comp :D (eek!) on Sunda. It's just a training comp so we get a guided course walk and a supportive, friendly atmosphere apparently. I did a run through of some obstacles last weekend and Chilli seems to understand them now - or at least the makeshift versions I did at home - so let's see! I'm more worried about the dressage test as he's been having tantrums about the right canter strike-off recently.

Physio came this morning and found tightness across his chest and into the right shoulder so hopefully that explains the issue, but also means he needs a day off today and a quiet day tomorrow, which follows two days off due to my work so he might be a bit fresh by Sunday!!

It's December next week - how did that happen?

Arena hire today with plans to do canter work. It's an arena we've used loads before but he was so tense our trot work was short and choppy with his back humping. Gave up with canter ideas

Usually the yard have horses in the fields by the arena but they've moved to their winter fields so I think it threw him not being able to see anyone. All good experience for a youngster though I guess.

Out both days this weekend. PSG x2 for Cas and medium tomorrow for Raz.

Cas only needs one more sheet for his AF qualification so 🤞🏻 as he’s been feeling fab.

Other than that, I will be attempting to keep the pup out of trouble. His latest is to steal my shoes and run away with them 🙃 thank god he’s cute as hell as he’s a wee menace 🙈

Not very exciting, had a lesson this morning, did some polework and worked on him not rushing the poles and being more adjustable- by the end he was going so nicely. It is my fault because I always fire him into jumps, but when I asked him to wait and slow, he had time to think and adjust which is obviously so much better!

Will try and hack tomorrow, and maybe going climbing with a friend in the afternoon, which I haven't done in years, so that's exciting!

Schooling session this morning while the trailer was being cleaned. He’s been in cavesson for a while, but going back to grackle as he seems to prefer the stability it provides to the bit even when done up loosely.

Tomorrow will be hacking day as long as the weather holds out… Scoot boots seem to be working well. We lost one twice on the last ride, but some mud straps and non-slip shims arrived this week so need to test them out! To be fair, it was cantering on a fairly muddy track that it came off. Absolutely fine cantering on former ground and walking through mud. He’s sort of between sizes due to the flare on his foot, but have been advised to try the shims so fingers crossed 🤞🏼

We had a great time at the Working Equitation! Really friendly comp and a welcome food van on site given the cold, damp weather yesterday. He was very tense, as expected, but held it together until the very last movement of the dressage test when he decided to pop in another canter, then had a tantrum when I stopped him.

The ease of handling (obstacle round marked for style) course had a couple of spooky things but it was bunting on the pen that really worried him. We made it round the pen eventually and the other obstacles went fine, although he did demolish a small tree when we got stuck in rein-back after the bell 🙈. Terrible scores but we weren't last!

Then the speed round - he felt much more confident by the time we did this. I kept it steady as I don't want to blow his little brain, he does that easily enough on his own! Here's a vid:

Horsey people can get a bad rap for being bitchy (often deserved!) but I had some fabulous support from complete strangers yesterday whilst out with Babycob on my own.

There was a working hunter training show (full dress) locally to me, with a clear round running alongside it. The yard are known for quirky jumps because they produce working hunters to HOYS standard so want them to be exposed to anything and everything. I thought the x-pole clear round put on for the lead rein ponies would be a great training session so planned to get their first thing, pop round and come home. My plan was absolutely fine but their first aider was delayed which meant the whole show was delayed by 30 minutes.

Busiest collecting ring Babycob had ever seen and with delays it just kept getting busier and busier. Firstly a big thank you to the random lady who helped me get on a very bouncy cob. He was just about holding it together when 2 very flashy Welsh D's came into the collecting ring with all the bounce and pizzazz you expect. The show organiser noticed Babycob getting a bit bouncy and opened the rope to the clear round course and told me to just calmly walk him round, show him the jumps and bring the adrenaline down. I could have hugged her.

Obviously being the first round meant I then completely forgot where all the flipping jumps were - especially as there was a LOT to look at (plus the collecting ring getting even busier, and the lorry park full to bursting) - but some of the ladies I've met doing dressage locally were there and helped me out by shouting where the next jump was. I was very proud of my hairy, definitely not show ready cob who had a couple of stops to look at the really odd ones, but popped both those on 2nd attempt and cleared some first time that I thought we'd have difficulties with.

Back to the lorry park which was heaving and he decided he wasn't going to load. Parked himself halfway up the ramp with a stubborn look on his face and wouldn't even be bribed with a polo - and there was a queue of lorries trying to park  Our recent loading issue is probably another thread in itself but one of the ladies who had watched me jumping and told me how lovely he was spotted I was having an issue and came over to help. No idea who she was but I owe her & her daughter a big thank you for a timely slap on the rump and a very firm Get Up. He Got Up and calmly tucked into his hay net.

So I'm still thinking warm thoughts and giving virtual hugs to everyone who helped me out yesterday. It is hard going out on your own and I'm very grateful to a lot of people I've met this year who have come to my aid.

I had a lesson last week with Rien van Der Schaft, which was phenomenal. I was a bit concerned that we weren't typical combination he'd be used to teaching, but it was really great.

On Saturday this week I had my once-a-fortnight fancy lesson, which was also brilliant. My supercob was on his toes, very bouncy and decided to show the instructor how well his passage is going, but that energy meant we got some really good moments. He's such a superstar. We're all qualified for either PP or regionals so no more competitions planned for now, but we will see.
