Midges - in December?!

My sweet itch horse has been so itchy for two days now. Have had to change his rug back to one with a full neck as he was frantically rubbing his mane. It got up to about 11 degrees today so I'm wondering if the midges are out. Anyone else experiencing this? Usually I don't have to worry till February/March!

Yes! I squished one in my car this morning!! I hate the things and now they're indestructable

Could be lice! maybe early for them too but I have known the little bleeders wake up early when it has been exceptionally warm in winter!

It's my shetland who is the one that suffers if they get them, having no rugs I guess the blighters find a good warm waterproof place to sleep in his thick coat!

The shampoo and lice powder are always ready!
