My horse is on box rest at the moment so my instructor friend lent me one of her horses to take to a dressage comp at the weekend.

He is a 17.3 leggy 5 year old gelding. My friend is a lot better rider than me and I struggle with his lankyness - especially in the canter and getting his bum underneath him. Having said that I don't look as small on him as I feel - he is very different to my compact 16 hand boy!

There are some prof pics at: http://www.sbmphotographic.co.uk/photo3131083.html. Click on the right arrow for 7 more pics.

Critique and comments welcome!

Thankies

you dont look thats small on him, holding a big horse together when you haven't got much leg is tricky (as the 5ft3 owner of a 17.3hh 5yo i know from experience) but you look like you did a fab job, well done

hope you got a good score

Thanks for the comments everyone. He's such a lovely boy and yes very scarily he is still growing!

We got 54% but I lost a lot of marks as I couldn't pick up right canter.

Well done and he is only 5 that brill. These big horses really are a different ride, i use to think riding a 18hh was the same as riding a 17hh but it is as different and riding a pony and a horse as far as i am concerned.
