My lovely - and very lightweight- groom hopped on Milagra this morning, and pottered about in our big field. Milagra looked so excited to be doing things. I do ground work with her and I’ve ridden her a handful of times myself but I am too heavy to ride her, really.

K is light as a feather and stuck to walk, and Milagra looked ten years younger. The spring in her step was unbelievable.

I’m so happy for her - we may even have to consider buying her some real tack!

Dentist is due tomorrow so we’ll have a progress report on teeth too.

Thats so lovely to see you should definitely start doing a bit with her especially if your groom likes riding her you could both hack out together, I love getting Louis and Arabi out together they really like going on a hack and they even enjoy schooling together, I've lost my rider that rides with me as she is expecting a baby and I really miss our rides.

Thanks everyone, I’m so pleased for her. Her little ears were pricked up so far forward that she looks like a unicorn in silhouette ?

I think I’m going to have to buy her some proper tack. The saddle is ok if padded up and I’m contemplating letting her keep Mim’s Micklem because I think it fits her better than it fits Mim. But she needs her own saddle cloths and her own colours.

Or Spanish tack ??

This is lovely.

It's like Rigsby, he is really retired, he can live rent free, no worries. But, he likes the odd adventure. Good for his soul.

Same as my old boy. I always tack him up loose in the field so if he doesnt feel like it he can walk away. Hes never yet walked away. He marches out of the gate with his ears on full lock and is usually full of mischief the whole time.

Yeah get her a saddle

I’m wondering when best to do this.

Her wintec fits her ok, with a prolite half pad/ riser and Mim’s super comfy padded Busse numnah. It is very lightweight too.

I worry that if I get her something more fitted to her now, she may still build up a bit of top line now that she’ll be ridden more.

But at the same time, I bought that wintec for her as an interim measure and she may not develop as well as she would without something properly tailored to her.

Catch 22.

To me it's too high in front, possibly caused by being too far forwards. It will likely cause her issues I'm afraid, being 2lb lighter than another saddle makes no odds sadly. Why not have a trusted fitter fit or recommend a used saddle? If you buy wisely you can usually recoup your money or even make a profit.

It’s going to be a challenge.

I may need professional help.

Thats a bit like how Arabi will look if his been out of work, I struggled for years with saddles and I didn't realise that the saddle I had been using was too narrow, it was a long time ago and I didn't know much about saddles then.

Game changer was a Lavinia Mitchell saddle she did a remedial fit so the saddle is essentially too wide so you use a shim numnah to lift it off where you want the muscle to develop and to make it fit then add or take away the shims as they change.

I also used a prolite with it in the beginning but after about a year I didn't need it, he literally changed shape within months and his back then got a really good top line, I still use the shims but if his fit and in full work he just needs 2 thin ones at the front.

She does have a bit of muscle damage at the front behind the shoulder you need a wider saddle so you can shim it there to lift it off her back so the muscle can develop, I have been using the system for years and you soon learn how to use it according to how your horse changes.

I will pm you x
