Hey guys,

My boy has just been diagnosed with very mild coffin bone arthritis in his front left hoof.

Does anyone else's horse suffer with this, can your horse be in full ridden work still?

Thanks!

No reason why the horse cant be in full work. You'll have to manage it carefully. And the horse may require a daily or half dose of danillon. But of course all these are things you can discuss with your vet. Your farrier will also be interested to see the xrays so he can support the feet appropriately.

Thanks AmyMay. The vet is happy for him not to have bute at the moment, but he said I have the option to put him on it if he gets sore.

What are the best supplements I can put him on? Are magnetic boots helpful?

I'm going to be collecting the X-rays tomorrow afternoon.

Magnetic boots did wonders for
My old boy who had very severe arthritis in his pastern and fetlock joints so wouldn't hesitate to recommend them! I used the equilibrium ones.

Does he have actual changes on x-ray? Mine was diagnosed with coffin joint DJD- by nerve block ie no boney changes on x-ray (+flat pedal bones/under run heels).

He has been sound since I took his shoes off March 2012 (never had bute). I think that allowing his soft tissues to develop better in the foot helped no end.
