Just a mild rant if you don't mind.

Have been searching for a large two wheeled wheelbarrow for some time and thought I had found it plus it is very local to me - as in I go past their door when I go to my feed merchants every week. Asked if I could collect rather than pay £15 delivery, told fine so they take card details ready for me to pick up tomorrow. Ten minutes later I get a call to say no can do; if I want to collect then they'll have to charge me an extra tenner on the price advertised so I told them no thanks as I can get the same model with delivery for the price they advertised at but I wanted to give a local supplier the business. It's not like they're not already making a profit on it without the delivery charge.

I appreciate they all need to make money but that's biting the hand that feeds especially when it's a local customer; amazing how many people I can tell that do usually use them!

Feel better for that, thanks. :D

Oh don't. I wanted to put in a biggish order for some stuff, about £1K plus delivery priced up online. Went to a supplier I've dealt with for years and said I'd got a biggish order to put in, could they price it for me. It came to about £1200. I pointed out that I know that they will just order it in from the online supplier I'd priced it with and asked if we could come to an agreement, they'd already have an order coming so delivery to them wouldn't cost anything extra, I'd come and collect on the day it was delivered so no storage issues, could they do it for £1100 which would give them £100 for doing the order on top of the supplier %age bulk markup and save me the delivery and £100. I didn't get a yes and I didn't get a no, what I got was a major diatribe on people not using local suppliers and buying everything cheap off the internet:confused:

I have to say I just went home, picked up the phone, rang the online supplier, negotiated a discount to cover the delivery and placed the order. I'm all for using local suppliers BUT I gave them a chance to make money out of a deal I could perfectly well do without them AND got an earbashing so in future I'll just go straight to the online supplier except for any little items I might have forgotten and that I need in a hurry.

Wow, cheeky beggars! Surely that is mis selling, they have advertised a price, which you have paid, delivery is extra which you haven't paid for. They have entered into a contract with you for an agreed price and should stick to it. Frankly I would ask to speak to the owner and say how disappointed you are that they obviously don't value local custom and that as far as you are aware this is an issue TS's deal with.

Lol, that was the owner! He was a bit peeved when I said I didn't want it and that I could get it at the same price elsewhere. TBH, I'd rather pay more than go back there now.

That's awful Jemima, seems like local firms just don't need our custom; more fool them.
