Hi,

Does anyone have any experience on the above? What was the long term prognosis and what levels of work did your horse manage?

Our horse was diagnosed today with mild tendon sheath effusion in the hind left. The tendon has been medicated, have instructons to follow re walking exercise etc.. and then his to be reassessed by vet in four to six weeks time. Just wondered what his long term prognosis is likely to be and what his future will hold for him.

Mine had a tendon sheath injury. He was pretty lame. Had box rest for 4 weeks and could be grazed-in hand daily. He came sound afer week-10 days I think. I remember that it was one winter when we had a lot of frost, so I was pleased I wasn't worrying about turning him out on frosty ground, he had to stay in anyway!

After re-scan vet said he could be turned out in the field when he was doing 1 hour's exercise. He was a total, total nightmare and pratt, bucking and rearing down the lane, despite sedation, with me on the lungeline, in hat, gloves, horse in sidereins and bridle. He just went crazy.

I gave up after no improvement in behaviour and worried about the injury and sent him to a livery yard that does re-hab (I was obviously being feeble) and he repeated his nonsense behaviour. YO got vet to give him different sedation, which worked and he returned to me, sound and in work about 1 month later (insurance paid for most of this).

He returned to full work, and winning again in the show ring. (Mind, his full work isn't as much as some horse's! He never does cross country or hunting for instance). But he was good as new and still is, on that leg anyway.
