Hi, I'm in the RAF and will be hunting for the first time this coming season. Is it normal practice for military personnell to wear No.1 (RAF) jackets or do we simply wear the same as everyone else? I thought the latter until someone mentioned it today.
Many thanks x

I was in the household cavalry and we never wore military dress when hunting. Plus, there's the whole palaver that would result when an anti sees you swanning about in your No 1 jacket, I can see an interview without coffee resulting.

Hunt balls are a different matter however, you will be able to wear uniform/mess dress at those.

I may be wrong, but I'm sure I've seen people in military type colours from the DAC out hunting - I'd hate to say what kind of jackets, but my memory tells me the skull cap covers were khaki green....

Can you imagine the dry cleaning bills with all that mud and explaining to the RSM as to why your buttons are ripped off the jacket from going through a hedge or why your lanyard has got slobber all over it. Hehe.

I love No.1's on a man but couldn't imagine seeing them on the hunt field for practicality, especially if one was an infantry soldier, soon find yourself being mistaken for the field master ;)

I'm in the RAF to.

I have never worn no.1's out hunting, but I believe you can if your recieve permission from the Stn Cdr as that is who you are representing.

Stick to the norm! Save the hassle.

Thanks as I said above I did think that we just wore the same as everyone else. It was only a passing comment from a colleague who mentioned wearing 1's out hunting that prompted me to ask. I'll wear the usual hunt coat especially with regards what's happened recently I don't want to make myself a target for abuse or anything else! Thanks for curing my curiosity peeps x
