Well despite all my panic and worries Milo coped really well with his mom going away, settled down nicely and was able to go out to his new herd within 2 days. Got chased away (as he should be) but no-body was really nasty to him and when Milo went away to the far side of the field shouting a bit one of his new herd mates eventually went and fetched him back.
First night I found him on the wrong side of the fence, back in his old field (none of his old field mates were out) but wanting to go back into the new field. Got him back and he trotted off quite happily. A week on we have no injuries (beyond a few scrapes) he happily comes away, gets his dinner and then goes back in his field. He has a friend who comes and defends him when the herd bosses chase him away (usually deserved) and he's become a much more polite little horse - he was starting to be a little monster and pushy (his mom rarely told him off, just ignored him) and being bottom of the herd has definately made him a nicer horse - still cheeky and still Milo but is a bit more aware of personal space and things like that :D:D:D

No problems with Roo, she's nice and chilled out at her temporary home so all in all a sucessful week :D:D:cool::D:D
