Hi,
A few horses I know have got thrush in their feet, they have some blue solution from the vet to use.
My mare doesn't seem to have anything to note yet, there are a few white crumbs that come from the frog clefts when I pick out. But it is very wet and I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up with some.

At my last yard we just used hydrogen peroxide. I have been looking at a few threads on here and there are varying opinions on what to use.
A couple of people mentioned Milton and I have some tablets in the kitchen that I use for bf's bike bottles and cammelback.

What concentration with the Milton tablets?

Apart from keeping stable clean and picking out feet, what else can I do to prevent it?

Thanks

It has to be the same dilution ratio that is required for babies bottles. I'm not sure about the tablets - i use the liquid solution, which is something like 1/2 a capful for 2 litres of water. The thing with Milton (at this dilution) is that it doesnt kill the 'good stuff' on/in the hoof, only the bad bacteria. :D

I don't know about the tablets but I have been told to use 1 part milton to 2 parts water.

And yes, 0nce a week should be fine to keep it at bay although just because several other horses have it, doesn't mean yours will. A lot comes down to stable and general hoof hygene

i would opt for a very clean dry bed, regular picking out of feet (twice a day) and a srub out with strong saline. or something like life data hoof disinfectant, or thrush buster. allow to stand on concrete with clean feet and topical application for half hour a day til problem solved. involve your farrier.

Thanks for all you replies!

I try to keep dry bed but she is v messy and likes to lie down at night and turns her bed into a bog by the morning!

I pick out twice a day, but think I will add some anti-thrush regime in once a week too!

Thanks again!
