I am being homechecked this week for a rescue Min Pin - he is 13 months old and has been crated for most of his life :-( . He's been in foster for 4 weeks and is starting to learn about life.

I have always had terrier/terrier x's - so know I can deal with their quirks, but haven't had any contact with a Min Pin.

So, what do I need to know about them?

Yes, I've had them for years - lost my last one last September at the age of 17.

They aren't for the faint of heart - they're lovely little dogs and think they're rottweilers. But they can be hard work as they can be destructive (I know of one that ate an entire bathroom - it especially liked the soft padded loo seat). Mine had a particular taste for leather watch straps - couldn't hide them well enough - I'd always find the entire strap gone and the buckles and face of the watch under the bed! I've been wearing metal watch bands as a result now for the past 12 years or so ;)

They are much like other small terriers (think JRT) in terms of exercise needs and energy.

I think they were fantastic dogs for when I was in my 20s...but now I'm in my 40s I wouldn't have another - toooo much work ;)

They can be hard to house train - but mine did fantastically well with use of a cat flap -- and a couple even were litter box trained. Just that they have such small bladders so they need to go lots.

They can also feel the cold rather easily, so do appreciate a jumper or coat in the coldest days.
