Well i seem to have had a bit of a breakthrough with my welshie!
I have often posted on here about how lovely he is to ride when he feels like going well, these times would vary massively and maybe appear at the end of a very long schooling session where he would work against me, at a competition he would go to pieces spooking and giraffe impressions alround .
I had him looked at by the physio beginning of december who found a bit of soreness where the back of his saddle sits, she was convinced it wasnt the saddle so she did a bit of work on him, he was also a little tight through his right side.
Took him out the day after and he felt much better, he then had a few days off and i schooled him and he was much more consistent and he felt lovely and i was really pleased with him.
Since then he ha a bit of time out - been riding 2 or 3 x per week when i can mainly hacking and doing a bit of schooling in open fields and hes been fab.
I schooled him on Wednesday and wow!! what normally takes a lot of sweat and hard work took hardly any time at all - he was so consistent from the word go, he was lovely and light,i could ride him off my little finger and he was really holding himself, really active and actually felt much straighter, he still has a way to go but i really feel like we are getting somewhere, hes finding his lateral work much easier now and i only have to ask once and he gets it and moves away from the leg without a battle.
I am planning on taking him to a clinic end of feb which will do him good to have a change of scenery as this is where we struggle!
No competitions planned as yet as would rather feel 100% and feel like he is right before spending money only to be disappointed with a below average score!
He makes me feel excited to ride him again now instead of the dread and frustration!
The physio is coming out again next week to give him the once over again
