Mini Disaster!!! Need a bit of cheering up :(

So Percy is nearly 9 months and we desperately needed to separate him from Zoom until we whip his balls off. We have found a lovely place with a herd of colts who are taking him for the summer. That leaves Zoom on her own but a lovely friend from my old yard who has a mare who cannot be ridden due to injury is sending the lovely ginger pony to France to keep Zoomy company.

All very nice, sounds simple right?!

Disaster 1 : mum fell and broke her arm two weeks ago leading the horses......it's ok, I thought 'I'll just go over to France and help with the move'.

Disaster 2 : I had an injury last week in a Netball match and have fractured my ankle and ruptured my collateral ligaments.......crutches for 6 weeks. It's ok 'I can at least go out to france and supervise'

Disaster 3 : SNOW!!!!!! Ada is stuck in Dover at the moment as the motorways in Northern France are closed.

Disaster 4 : Just as the snow started to fall yesterday Percy ripped Zoom's rug off her back and shredded it......spare rug is down the road in the other barn and we are snowed in.

WAAAAAAAAAH!!!! Poor Zoom is naked :( :( :( Mum walked the half an hour in the snow to feed them and luckily they are both fine. Farmer will drop hay off so I'm sure they will survive but what a nightmare.

Poor Percy even has icicles on his beard!! I can't even get out of the front door as there is at least 2 feet of snow and I'm crap on my crutches.

Words of encouragement please!!!!

Thanks love. They are sheltering in the trees and eating hay and don't seem too fussed. Mum is walking down again now to check on them.

Thought 'things can't get any worse, so I cheered up and sure enough, things got worse!' Dubsie, this is tempting fate!! The ponies look cold but if they are used to being out up until now, and can shelter from the wind, then they'll be fine with plenty of hay... fibre, hind gut, warmth. But what about Zoom - still naked? Can another friend walk down to your yard and put something on the horse? FWIW the thaw has started here in the East and I can see grass! The wind is still the bad thing but they can shelter. It will get better and just think of how many wild animals cope with worse than this, and also, very sadly, some tethered and abandoned horses. Do what you can OP and I hope you and your mum are soon better.
 
Unfortunately there are no yards for miles and people here don't tend to rug their horses so Zoom will have to stay naked :( Her spare rugs are about 7 miles away at our other barn. Even the tractors are struggling so we can't get it til tomorrow.

Mum's just been down with the hay though and they are absolutely fine. Mum walked a mile in 3 feet of snow dragging the bale with her one good arm!! What a hero!!! Zoom was out in the middle of the field, not tucked up and quite happy so I will try not to fret.

There is not much we can do so not much point worrying I guess.
 
Things are much MUCH better today. It stopped snowing last night and there is quite alot of grass showing through. The ponies made it through the night absolutely fine and wouldn't even eat their brekkie this morning thanks to the poking through of yummy spring grass :D

Percy going tomorrow and Ada is coming on the overnight ferry from the UK. Thanks for asking :)
