Hello,
Although I've had my mini's for over 10 years, this is the first winter they have been in a paddock with literally no grass. I'm unsure about how much hay to provide them with. There are 4 ponies and so far they have been given ad lib hay (round bales), but I suspect they are being overfed and getting too fat to what they actually need.
I'm considering buying a couple of trickle nets to start with, but would like to know in terms of slices (from small bales) how much each pony should ideally have over a 24hr period. Last night I put a small bale of hay in the rack and it was all gone 24hr later (not sure how quickly they ate it as only checked them once today which would prob be about 2.5 slices each.
This sounds a bit lame - I should know the answer myself, but they've always been on grass so its never been an issue.
Thanks, Sasha
