Hi,

Just wondering what we're best doing with our miniature shetty next season. I understand MHOYS is for miniature horses, however all the pics i've seen don't look like your 'typical' show, owners wearing ball gowns etc.
But at HOYS is there ever a class for shetlands/miniature shetland. I've seen miniature horse of the year class but all of these seem to be miniature horses & no shetland breeds.

Bit confused as to whats best to aim for? & what his best chances are in?

Thanks in advance

Miniature horses are the ones where some of the owners wear some interesting clothes, I have seen miniature Shetlands clipped up to enter these classes, I am not sure how usual that is - I always thought that miniature horses are a very different shape!

Shown as a breed in their own right Shetlands and miniature Shetlands are included in M&M classes, shon untrimmed and have handlers that wear traditional M&M turnout so tweed coat etc

At HOYS there are no dedicated Shetland classes but the classes you may find Shetlands are:

M&M Ridden Shetland/Dartmoor/Exmoor class
M&M under 122 working hunter pony
M&M Lead Rein or first ridden
Cuddy in hand pony class (though I am not sure if any Shetlands qualified for that this year)

Thanks, interesting clothes is defiantly what i was thinking!

Just wasn't sure with him being a miniature if he would be ok with M&M at hoys!
Glad someone is on my wavelength! Thank you :)

There has never been a miniature shetland at HOYS.

The mini classes are for the Miniature Horses not mini shetlands.

Only one shetland has ever qualified for the Cuddy and that was a lovely black standard shetland and that was over 15years ago. To qualify for the Cuddy you need to be supreme inhand of a show with a qualifier - beating the standards, welsh, riding ponies, hunters, coloureds, hunter ponies - everything!
