I would love to have a go at a working hunter class with Zoom. However, I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to jumping!

She is approx 14.3hh/15hh (she is a small tb) but definately no bigger so would be small enough to do WHP. Some classes seem to specify that I have to be under 20 (lame!). I have found a show on Good Friday that has a 'minimus working hunter pony' class. It says: 'ponies not to exceed 15hh, and not to have been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any working hunter class, jumps 2'-2'3'.

Now she doesn't exceed 15hh, has never done a working hunter and has only sj'd twice. Once in a 2foot clear round and once in the 2'3 beginners class (didn't get placed!).

My only problem is...........are all the other ponies going to be 12hh jobbies with 6 year olds on them??!! There is potential for extreme embarrasment!

What to do?!

Just go for it!!

I have same problem, my cob's 14.1hh and I keep thinking will it be all kids? But then again have you seen some of them ride thier, better than most adults I know that have been riding years!!!

ps I want Zoom, she would be a brill girlfriend for mine cob :D

Aw thank you! :D She is mean to her boyfriends though lol! Monty used to follow her round like a sick puppy and she would be so cruel to him!!!

She loved him really though, treat em mean keep em keen!

Do it!! :D
I did a 1ft 6 jumping class at a show once, I was the only one in it, and at 15 and on a 14hh pony, no one laughed, and I even got cheered on at the end becuase I was so nervous! And I won a red rosette and a grooming kit box, because I was the only one :p

No there may be quite a few adults on M&M novice ponies too as well as I enter this class on my 13.2 pony.

a) do it!! :) it will be good fun!!

b) if anyone laughs, do you care?!! So long as the 2 of you enjoy yourselves, everyone else can go to hell! And I doubt anyone would laugh/take the mick/anything but be supportive!

And dont forget to post piccies afterwards! :)

do it= just brazen it out even if it is full of kids! lol
i did my first ever sj comp at a rs in jan... i was the only one on something over 15hh and the oldest by about 20 yrs :o and the kiddies were far more confident than me on whizzy little ponies that my horse tried to bite everytime they came near :o but was great fun :D

Thanks guys! I'm gonna go for it!!! :D I'm not sure if I can get transport for good friday but I have now googled and found LOADS of novice working hunter pony classes.

Hopefully they won't notice she has one eye in the conformation/showing bit!!!!! :D

Go for it!

At the moment, I'm hoping my pony will be able to do a "wobbly working hunter pony" class in September---and that's even smaller than minimus! (He has had a thing about jumping, and that means I'm now really nervous about jumping him---although no problems jumping others, if you know what I mean.)

This - on the rare occasion we get to a show I do the 2ft 3" class on my 14.2hh Welsh Cob. We jump very rarely these days and I can't afford to fall off any more (back injury) so it's a nice safe tootle round just for fun. We're always beaten by the kids on whizzy ponies, lol. :p

Nooo I;m the same. Josie's 16hh but i used to jump her in minimus classes. I'd find that less embarrasing than jumping a class that;s out of our league and trashing them/being eleminated or something.
do what your comfertable with - sod everyone else.

Get and have a go!!! The riding club I help out with have these classes and ALL are welcome - yes we do have the 12hh wizzy ponies but we also have lots of larger horses and ponies with riders who are coming back into competiton after time out, those who are slightly more nervous, novices at their first show - you would be surprised at the cross section of ages and abilities we get entering!!

Absolutely have a go - I have Ozzy who is a 14.1 Welshie and I will be doing small classes on him once we build up our confidence! S0d what everyone else thinks - as long as you two have fun that's all that matters. I once did the 45 and 55cm nervous novice classes on my old pony and there were plenty of adults there. You'll have a blast I'm sure - remember to post piccies!!!
