I am about to be taken for my first experience of mink hunting tomorrow. After a 4am start to go autumn trail hunting!! first.

Can anyone tell me what to expect as I don't have a clue?

thank you

I guess this is a bit late now! As you will now have discovered for yourself what takes place, still for future reference...

Generally the meet will take place at 11am or 12pm at a pub or farm. Port or snacks will usually be served. The hounds will then be taken down to the draw - they can either be walked down if the river is on the property where the meet has taken place or boxed down to a convenient spot.

The huntsman will then take the hounds into the draw. The Whipper Ins (4 is the ideal number) will split themselves between the two banks. The hounds then draw the stretch of the river as far as the cleared country extends. Unless either there is a reason for pulling out before the end or there are lakes on the way to draw.

Around 4pm or so the huntsman will pull out of the river. Hounds will be boxed and the followers given lifts back to the meet or where vehicles were left. The tradition is then to go back to a hostelry or farm for tea afterwards.

Hope you enjoyed your day.
