We've moved house and brought our koi with us. At the moment they're in a temporary pond with a metal grill over the top. We recently found out there are mink at the river at the bottom of the fields. Not great for fish!
The permanent pond is raised and built from oak sleepers with a box liner. It has tall posts at each corner for a pergola kind of effect to grow climbers over. I'm thinking the only possible deterrent is going to be electric fencing. (OH doesn't want any mesh over the top.) Ideally it would be as unobtrusive as possible. I could use one of my battery energisers or get another mains unit but I'm not quite sure of the actual setup to keep mink out. I'm thinking at least 2 wires/polywires on screw in insulators around the top, at heights of say one inch and three inches? Or would two parallel wires at the same height work better? I can't find much online for distances.
If anyone has successfully kept mink out of a pond I'd love to hear about it!
