Minor cut on hind bulb...how to treat?

My TB has come in for his evening feed with a minor cut on his hind bulb, not very deep only about 2 or 3 mm and about 1 inch long with no flappy skin. He is not lame but when we hosed it down to clean it up and have a proper look he was a bit fidgety though this is quite normal. I have turned him back out as he is almost impossible to box rest and he is moving fine.
Should i put something on it or just let nature heal...it isnt very deep at all but am obviously worried about infection?

i would rest as mine had a similar cut and it got infected. most importantly you need to keep it clean so if you have no mud maybe turn up but cover and vetwrap.

have you got access to a hoof boot or poultice boot like this one: http://www.risleysaddlery.co.uk/catalogue/horse-boots-bandages/poultice-boots/davis-poultice-boot mine was cheaper than this but has saved my bacon many a time with abscesses enabling me to turn out.

or you could make your own dress the wound then vetwrap it then nappy over the heel and then use a couple of corners of hayledge sacks and loads of duct tape.
