I have also posted this in vet and hoof care, hope that is O.K!
My TB has come in for his evening feed with a minor cut on his hind bulb, not very deep only about 2 or 3 mm and about 1 inch long with no flappy skin. He is not lame but when we hosed it down to clean it up and have a proper look he was a bit fidgety though this is quite normal. I have turned him back out as he is almost impossible to box rest and he is moving fine.
Should i put something on it or just let nature heal...it isnt very deep at all but am obviously worried about infection and the fact that he is moving about so much may stop it healing?

I would clean it and then leave it open to the air. I would also check it twice daily (clean mud from wound, check it's healing nicely).

Thanks for that, and was exactly what I was going to do! Its abit of bad timing as we were meant to be going on our first organised pleasure ride of the year on sunday but think we might have to give it a miss now :(

Mix up some salt water solution (tea spoon of salt per pint of water) in a garden hand sprayer. Use this, with some pressure, to wash out the wound. Ensure the wound is clean. Do not use disinfectant etc in the wound. It is not needed, the wound is fresh, it has no infection only some dirt which you can wash out. Then smear over some 'aquagel' on the wound which will keep it moist (& stop the flap of skin shrinking back & thus leaving a large scar when healed). Put a piece of melolin on the cut & then wrap it in vetrap. This will keep it clean & moist & will help the healing process. Re do the dressing daily & after 2/3 days you can leave the dressing off * it will heal well.

People always seem to put chemicals into a wound when they are not needed. If there is no infection don't put any in. The wound only needs to be cleaned.
