Minor pleasures

As a counterpoint to the minor irritations thread!

- On a recent hack, every motorist was lovely. They waited a safe distance behind until it was safe to pass, then did so quietly and leaving a good two metres. A man with a rattly van was especially careful going past.

- On the same hack, encountered a runner with a loose dog. When he saw us coming, he recalled the dog (which responded beautifully) and clipped a lead on. The dog completely ignored the horses while running past, and continued to ignore them once it was released.

- Turning my horse out and watching her mooch over to her herd, who all come and greet her, before they get back to the serious business of eating.

I'm blessed all our locals seem really nice whether on foot, in a car, on a bike, lawn mowing etc. They all say hello and stop as appropriate to let us pass. Its been really helpful with a youngster starting her hacking career that everyone has been so kind.

I'm on a fab yard with lovely fellow liveries who support each other and understand we like our own space occasionally.
We have direct access off the yards to two fields with a track around, and the views are gorgeous whatever time of year it is. OK, it's flat East Anglian fields and hedgerows, but it's still glorious.
Amber is a straightforward horse and no bother at all, really; I've enjoyed getting to know her over the last 12 months.

The road right outside my yard can be a bit hairy and, unfortunately, you need to do a few hundred yards on it to get to the off-road hacking. However, my horse is an absolute saint in traffic, and has just got better since moving to a stable in the hay barn with tractors coming in and out all the time. The other day, we squeezed through a gap next to a running JCB, so close my foot touched it, and she didn't shift out of her contented plod.

On our hack yesterday (although we weren’t on our best behaviour but that was mostly because our usually well behaved old hacking companion was being a classic moody mare ? and doing her best to teach new girl bad habits) we walked past a family out walking and new girl turned and tried to speak to the people. She’s just so friendly and I love her! They somehow resisted that face!! ??‍

These are lovely!

My new six-year-old, who doesn't bend the right way in the school and frequently disgraces himself by bombing off in a ridiculous elevated clearly-used-to-be-a-driving-pony extended trot when asked to canter, is proving to be utterly bombproof and quite saintly out hacking - to the point where he is able to escort the other babies and take the lead in scary situations or when another pony is being silly. Hacking is wonderful, but hacking on a pony that you KNOW that you can trust is just magical.

I'm amazed that anyone could resist that face! She's adorable!

I rode my pony in a bareback pad yesterday. First time with him (and by the look on his face, possibly a first for him too!). He was an absolute angel ?
