I've posted on here before about the nightmare I have with my farrier - booked in the diary and then it takes about 3 weeks of constant harrassing him despite this to get him to actually come out. Not to mention suddenly getting a call in the middle of the day (when I am at work) saying he's on his way....er thats not too helpful I am in London!!!

Anyhow...having said I am going to book a day's leave (I normally just take a half day or ararnge to go in late), and asking what day is best - to be told Monday will be fine, I don't hear back from him with a time and finally get hold of him tonight to be told no, he cant do monday now! FFS!!! Just as bloody well I have the vet coming out Monday for their vaccs otherwise it would have been a complete waste of a days leave!

So, I am going to get someone new (I did try before, but 'new' farrier went and contacted 'old' farrier to check and of course old farrier got on the phone pretty quick and could all of a sudden come out...), can anyone recommend anyone that covers the Ide Hill area in Kent? Someone on here very kindly sent me a list of those recommended and those not so, but I have lost it!!!

I too would find a new farrier, my farrier is excellent and I need a good farrier with my girl and her bad foot. Good luck in finding a new one, we did have a farrier like this when I was young, he was a nightmare to get out to tend to the horses feet, so I feel your pain.

Its infuriating.....I've never had farrier issues until I moved up here....when I was at home (hampshire) I had the most amazing farrier who we had for about 10 years and he was always there when he would say he would be, he would phone if he was going to be 5 minutes late! Whilst ponio number 3 has been at home for the last year, mum has had him again and not a single issue. Guess they cant all be decent!!

I think unreliability is a contagious disease amongst farriers that they catch at college- its so common. Very few have something called customer service. They get away with it because people are desperate to have their horss shod but you wouldnt put up with it from anyone else you paid £60+ pounds an hour!

Change farriers if i were you, hes had his chance and there are some good ones out there.

I have not long moved to this area. Called a farrier on tuesday afternoon not expecting a appointment for 2 weeks or so and he said he would be out wednesday morning at 9.30 was thinking great quite quick. Now i have 2 children a 3 year old and a 13week old. My time is very limited as my baby is a hungry boy and likes to be fed every 2hours in the day and where i have my horses i have no electricity so i cant warm milk or make any fresh milk up. So the farrier turns up over a hour late by this time my 3 year old is bored and being a s*$t and my son had just polished off the bottle of milk i had for him. Now as i had only spoke to the farrier the day before surely he would of known how he was for time and how long it was going to take him to get from his appointment before me to then get to mine. I dont mind people being 10 15 mins late but as i said i dont have much time to spare why can they not just turn up on time. Its bad time management they must be taught how to be so bad at time keeping at college as the majority are the same!!!
I feel bit better after that!!!!

I must be the only person who has a good thing to say about their farrier lol, he turns up on time & is never late, infact he's usually early & if he cant for any reason (which has been about once in 6 years) get out to you he will let you know.

I have been very lucky, I have only once been let down by a farrier in 15 years. I have kept horses in Berks, Central Scotland and now in France.

However, I do book my farriers when they visit for the next 6 months.

i have nothing bad to say about my farrier he is fabulour with the horses and fair enough he's usually late but hes very busy but when im a student only working a few days at week and he comes out of his way to do my horses after 5pm so i can be there as he usually finishes then im not going to complain about anything and he even came out on christmas morning as taz had ripped a shoe of along with half his foot so nope nothing bad to say at all he's "precious" but then there are lots of good farriers like this in my area of scotland :D
