I live in the welsh/shrops border. they are giving -14 for sunday night and -15 into next week and feels like -20. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Welcome to Climate Change! You are having winters like we used to get. We still get the odd day of -20/-40 but for the most part these past few years -5 or -7 is becoming the norm. We're set up for winter at the temperatures you're getting as most people here have heated troughs, drinkers, buckets and water lines run at least 5ft below ground. I think a progressive company should be looking to importing/manufacturing all the things we have over here as winters are going to continue changing around the world.

It was -11 here in Suffolk at 0900 today! Wonder how cold it'll get tonight??
Triskar - thanks for the Norwegian weather website - very good!

Not sure how cold it was here last night but there was ice on the inside of the bedroom window this morning *teeth chatter*

Roll on summer.

I agree. We had serious talks a couple of years ago about car electric blankets with a Swedish friend :) There are so many simple things that make life easier - and we don't really know about any of them.

Big potential market here :D

Its just winter as it was around 20 - 40 years ago :)
Not sure its down to climate change gloom & doom, we've often had cold patches in winter.
I'm too young (just  ) to remember 1961......
We had a right old horrid cold & long snow in 1981, 1986/7 too... and a few in between & after :)

Currently around 0 here at the moment but 'feeling like' minus 8 & tonight its going down to -8 and feeling like -9

Brr, bit chilly :)

Its 0' here at the minute and trying its best to snow but not coming to anything, just some odd wee flakes folling. So far its not neen so bad cold weather wise, can remember it being a whole helluva lot worse 30 odd years ago

I left the heating on low (17deg) all night. It is better for the boiler and oil consumption as it doesn't have to work so hard in the morning to warm the house up when it has got so cold over night.

OMG, don't think I'll cope

It's -5 here and I'm struggling.

Log fire has been on since lunchtime (I'm wfh today conveniently) and yes, think the heating will have to do a longer stint this evening to get the house up to temp, ours is set to come on when it gets to 5 degrees, which I might have to change now that we leave the poor dog in the house by himself in the day. I'm used to getting in and it being less than 10 degrees, but feel for the poor dog, plus might prevent him weeing on the floor which he might do if he gets cold :)

Was -14 here in Norfolk overnight with 4-6" of snow, poos were frozen in the stables along with the water in the buckets. Absolutely freezing! Took me 3 1/2 hours to drive 7 miles home yesterday.Temp didn't rise above-2 today even in the bright sunshine and the joy of freezing fog forecast tomorrow. Don't you just love the winter!

Rain forecast again down here.:( It's that bad I'm getting jealous of all you lot with snow and freeziness. Anything but more bloody rain!!!

Horsesforever1 which part of Shropshire do you live near, north or south? Are you near Oswestry - we are thinking of moving there. Brrr -14. I better not tell OH or he won't go!

Me too, and people got on with it, without 4x4s, double glazing, or panic buying! We've only had 3 days of snow so far this year.. We do like to dramatize!:D

I wouldn't worry too much. Last week's predicted "arctic snap" didn't come to that much, even the main news only managed to find footage of places with 2" of snow! And Heathrow managed to get 99% of its flights away!

It is when you work outside! Booked to teach all Sunday at -10 in the day. Brrr, wouldn't mind but nowhere heated to warm up!

Is the difference between minus 3 and minus 10 that noticeable? Surely once its really cold it just feels cold?! xx

Not really. Anything above -10 is comfortable and easy to work in. Once you get down to -30 it's friggin cold and when it hits -40 it is very uncomfortable indeed and unless you are clothed correctly you will do damage to your body! Beyond that I can't imagine as -45 is the coldest I've ever endured.
