My pony was kicked on her hock 3 weeks ago. It looked like a scratch but became infected and ended up as quite a large gash. Her whole leg swelled and it was a mess. Tried bute, antibiotics, purple spay etc. Nothing worked. Today I smothered it in honey and within 3 hours it had dried up and had started to heal. Tonight it has a nice scab over it. If only I had done this weeks ago. If anyone has a wound that does not want to heal please try honey. It does have to be straight from the bee not the supermarket

Where would you get honey straight from a bee? My neighbours sell some. would that be ok? Or does it have to be in the comb?

Genuine question but sorry if its a stupid one!!

Neighbours bees will be fine. If you get it from the supermarket it is pastuerised which kills the healing properties.

Thanks for that information.

My feed merchant has recently started selling manuka honey as well. My horse is so sensitive to anything I can only use salt water and white powder which doesnt really speed up healing, so something more natural like honey may be of help.

Yeah, Ive heard the honey is amazing stuff which is great for loads of things including wounds. A little tip is that if you put honey on a wound and you turn the horse out - to keep flies off it in the summer you just dab a garlic capsule (the type humans take) round it!

Ive heard vinegar is amazing for loads of uses as well. I use it in water for washing horses down after they've sweated
