What a week. Firstly last Thursday I was hacking one of my mares and we were hit my a car! Young boy racer, on a perfectly clear straight stretch of road, good visability wearing reflective gear and ....... bang! We are both walking though which is nothing short of a miracle. At the present time the vet cant guarantee that she will go sound as we have not got as far as assessing the soft tissue damage, we will be doing scans next week. Interestingly the police didnt want to take any action as it was a civil matter?
Then yay, won a Rambo Duo! Which is for the mare that got hit - felt elated- fits beautifully!
Then - my other mare seriously suicide. I had her tied up while the foal fed. Went to feed mare in the next field, looked back - to find her in a heap on the floor. Ran back - faster than you could imagine - and well - god knows how she did it! Unclipped the rope and she got to her feet (phew!) The she had somehow got the rope wedged firmly through her hind shoe so couldnt get free as she had pulled the rope tight. Cut the double strength baler twine ( big bale string) and she was free. Then cut through the rope either side of the shoe. I was SHOCKED nothing gave way to her? I also dont know how she got in such a mess. Hadnt left her more than a few minutes.
So I am feeling lucky on all counts - but also wondering when my bad luck will end - my poor mares!

Glad to hear you and your mare are ok - what a nightmare for you.

The police HAVE to take action - if you and/or your horse was injured then it is classed as an accident in the Road Traffic Act and is most certainly NOT a civil matter. (I'm assuming it was on a public road?) Go and kick up a stink! You might at least get your vet's bills paid by the moron driver's insurance company.

Hope your week improves!!!

What a week. Hope things improve and your mare that got hit is okay.

I agree that you should definately kick up a stink - how can they not prosecute the driver - it could have been a fatal accident!

OMG am shocked about the accident. Which road was it on? I'm quite near you I think (outside Wimborne), and I am horrified at the attitude of the police. Hope the mare is ok x
