Missing Injections

Just a quick question!

If a horse misses its jabs by say a month, do you have to "start them again", whatever that means? My last vet never said that to me and yet my new vet is adamant and I can't tell if it's the £55.00 call out that's making them say that because apparently there's four horses on the yard that have all missed by either a couple of weeks or a month. . .

If you are under yard 'regs' to have fully vaccinated horse, then yes, you do need to start over again.

However, if not under regs, nor going to ever compete under any rules, nor take horse to EQ centres/show grounds etc that demand up to date vaccination record, then no - I would not bother - just get the jab done as soon as you can.

The latter is sometimes done by people with own horses on own land & the ones that dont go anywhere any more.

Your choice, unless you want to leave the yard if they insist you have them done within the right time-frame. Other yards may well insist the same (I do!)

Oh - and is it worth checking out costs for other vets to visit to do the same?
My vet is pricey for call out - but not £55!!!!

The £55 is probably call out and distance together. The jab is only about £15.

I've said £55 is waaaay too steep for callout, regardless of whether it's a "specialist" equine vets or not (who incidentally made the YO's horse bleed from an injection on his rump so badly it scabbed over to like in inch big!). The callout this time was £55 between 3 of us but the one injection still cost me £55 I don't mind paying for their health at all but they do seem quite keen on the old price!

I'm personally not convinced with them, no matter how wow they're meant to be, and they're not local to me so in an emergency, it's take them at least half an hour to get to us!

We don't go anywhere other than hacking out really but we'd like to try and get out to some winter stuff. Maybe i'll change vets and get them to come out and do the others jabs then

putasocinit, my vets charge £10 + vat to administer the jab! it cost me far more than £15 to have his jab done and I took him to the vets to have it done!!
ETA just looked at bill the actual jab was £40!!
