Hi Everyone
I'm currently doing post-grad research at Nottingham Trent University into mite infections in equids. My study involves assessing the prevalence of various mite species, especially Chorioptes (the leg mite), with the hope that I will be able to do some molecular work towards finding a suitable treatment - as I'm sure many of you are aware, there is currently a gap in the availability of treatments for leg mites and the unlicensed treatments out there vary greatly in their efficacy.
So why am I boring you with my post?! To justify any further molecular research I really need to know the severity and prevalence of such infections and therefore need to sample as many horses as I possibly can throughout the UK. The sampling is non-invasive and is accompanied by a small questionnaire about basic management and horse stats. In return I will let you know the results and offer a free faecal egg count as a thank you.
