Mites Mites Mites Mites

We have struggled with feather mites on and off for years, using everything known to man and vet. Then last year our old lass got lice from the next door pony, we treated that with Coopers Fly Repellant Plus and lo and behold, the mites have also gone.

how have you found them?? my boy got bald patches all over his face this time last year and had to have a course of 2 injections by vet (£70 a go) then about a month or 2 ago he started rubbing the hair away on his face again so i hibi scrubbed his face and it stopped it. he has just started again so i'm gonna do this again tomo. also sudocrem helps!!!

I use dectamax every 6 weeks... works well - when nothing else did... I don't buy it from the vet I buy it from the farm stores and a 30 quid tub lasts for 5 jabs... (oh and it does all worms but tapes too)... Not a licensed use but it's what my vet suggested and works well...
If I don't use it 6 weekly tho they're back...

I get the dectomax from the vets, didn't know you could buy it!

How much dosage do you give and where do you inject it? I'm ok injecting in bums! At the vets they always say its a big injection and its £18 a go, but it has worked.

Thanks

We used Deosect and found one application (either sprayed or sponged on) cured them completely, but make sure you wash and disinfect all rugs, headcollars, leadropes and brushes too as you can reinfect if they have any on them. It also works as 2 week fly repellent too so although we never had to use it again for mites we made use of it for the flies. We bathed them with dermaline first but you must ensure they are fully dry before treating with the deosect or it makes the coat go horrible.

My vet suggested 10 ml (for a properly heavyweight 15.1 cob)... and it's doing him no harm and killing the beasties too...
I put it in his bum and he's never bothered...

Oh great, thats sounds easy, mines a hw cob too.

Did you buy your needles and syringes from the farm place? I just googled the stuff online and one place sells loads of different needles!

Probably best to ring them really!

Thanks again, I will defo be doing it myself and he has just started on the ankle chewing!
