My yearling has scabs on the back of his knee which i thought could be mud fever but some1 has suggested that he could have mites as he has alot of feather.

How could i tell if he has mites and how would i get rid of them?

If he has mites he will be scratching his knees. A vet will take a scrape to find out if he has any. I had one with mites and the vet would give a 6 monthly injection, although I can't remember what its called

Start with frontline and then use pig oil and sulphur - PM me if you want the very long PM I do about preventing mites and keeping horses with hairy legs in good condition.

If you nip it in the bud now and keep with P&S for prevention you should not have further problems in the future. Hairy legs do take a little work but are worth it (or so I think).

yes sounds like mites/lice to me get your self some insecticedtal shampoo wash him then apply spot on for cows that will sort it and it works out very cheap!
