My lad has got itchy legs and we think it is mites (has feathers, but have now been cut off)

I rang the vets this afternoon, but all the equine vets were out on call so they have said to ring back thursday morning.

So, i thought i would post on here asking about it. Basically how did you treat the mites? i have heard you can have fronteline, or an injection?

Any info on mites and treatments greatfully appreciated

my cob stamped and rubbed her back legs when i got her.
i went to a vet talk.the vet said to use frontline but it is not licenced for horses but is the thing to have.
i bought a pump spray of it for my dog,i used it on my cobs heels then again 2 weeks later, she has never had the problem since.had tried other creams/washes but this is the only thing that worked for us.

If you want a very long PM about keeping hairy horses in great condition with all their glory and not mites, PM me and I will send it to you.

Quick version - do frontline treatment and then use P&S through the year - don't clip off hair unless you have lot of big open sores that need treating - don't use frontline on raw areas.

thanks

if i were to buy some frontline which was for dog. . .could get my mum to go and get some for our dog. . .i would just spray on legs?

i have been looking around for P&S as i want to do it but cant find it anywhere.

I have just rung the vets and they want to come out and visit him. . .which my mum wont be happy about as we will have to stump out a visiting charge. ..o well will see what she says. .

thanks for all your advise. . .i will look into the frontline option
