Looking at an L200, 4 years old max, and wondering what people think of these as towing vehicles? I had heard negative views but that was several years ago and I'm sure the vehicles have changed a fair bit since then.
Also, one we've seen is an automatic - any thoughts on towing with autos?
Any feedback gratefully received!

My OH is a mechanic and he much prefers the older version, which I have, an 03 plate.

Can't fault if for towing, and saved my life in lugging the water about last winter....

It's swings and roundabouts with any vehicle I reckon, you get good and bad with all of them!

I'd get another, anyway, good, solid truck, a real workhorse, but like all 4x4's....blimmin' thirsty!

We tow an IW 505 with an L2004life. it's fine for towing and tows very well, but the back end of the car is quite light. Only disadvantage is car+ trailer is quite long and there are some corners which are very tight due to the length. Also we only have road tyres at the mo, not great on muddy slopes! Otherwise love it, very practical for the job.

Auto best for towing the newer shape l200s are ok not to bad on fuel , they are a vast improvement on the old shape l200s which are truly awfull drink fuel, bouncy , poor turning circle which makes manuvering dificult , they break rear springs gearboxes fail and the engines blow up!! apart from that they are fine !!!

I have a manual new shape L200 and tow with mine (Richardson Supreme Ultra) and i find it very easy, its the first time i have ever towed, love it and refuse to swap it, very good on fuel as well and plenty of room in the boot

Would recommend going on the L200 forum and asking the. Yes, they will all be enthusiasts, but they will also tell you what to look out for when looking for one.

A friend of ours co-runs the forum and his truck is an absolute legend... A work of art in a mechanical and off roading kind of way. I know that they tow a small "tank" behind their truck!!!

Fom what I have heard, they are an out and out workhorse.

L200 is a brilliant towing vehicle and a very useful workhorse too. Have used them for over 10 years, towing a very large trailer with 2 Shires on board. Slight negative is a large turning circle but you get used to it. Get the underside sprayed with waste oil before each winter and it will stay good as new.
